Digital technologies, such as cloud computing and mobile applications, have the potential to transform fundamentally the way businesses operate. Companies realize they must go digital and are increasing their spending on technology accordingly.
Despite such increased investment, most companies have not fully taken advantage of newer digital technologies. In fact, the survey shows many companies still tend to see IT as operationally helpful but not a strategic differentiator. The survey also shows that many companies haven’t made the links across their organizations that would enable technology to empower the business. However, nearly half of respondents expect their organizations to become even more digital, integrated and collaborative going forward.
Some companies have made the leap: The survey identified “digital leaders” — enterprises that, according to their executives, are entirely digital across all major functions. Digital leaders enjoy several key benefits. They are more often globally integrated than other companies and much more often effective at sharing information across functions and regions. The majority of executives at digital leaders view IT as crucial to meeting their companies’ strategic goals. And digital leaders’ executives also more often report higher financial performance: 37% of their executives indicate that their fiscal performance was much higher than competitors’ in the past fiscal year, compared with just 11% of respondents at other companies.
As businesses seek to become more digital, they must overcome a number of challenges, including, executives expect, constrained budgets and a lack of qualified talent. Companies’ intent on developing an IT strategy for the fully digital future could gain valuable insight from the approaches that have worked well at digital leaders.

When we think of strategy, we can imagine playing a game of chess, using patterns of gameplay that put us in a better position to win: “If I can get my knight and queen connected in the center of the board, I can force my opponent’s king into a trap in the corner.” The same holds true for winning with data. Patterns of successful data gameplay form the basis for real and effective data strategies — and allow you to tell your Data Stories.
But when I see recommendations for data strategy, they tend to read more like a set of rules rather than patterns for winning a game. I often read about data governance policies, security constraints or documentation procedures, necessary considerations no doubt. But these are things that, I think, should be handled by systems owners. And I don’t think of them as strategic. Knowing that “the D2 pawn can move to D3 unless there is an obstruction at D3 or the move exposes the king to direct attack” is necessary to play the game, but it doesn’t help me pick a winning move.
To create a successful business strategy, you need a map. A map helps you figure out where to focus, what you need, how to proceed and why. You work out the customer’s needs, then find ways to generate competitive advantage by disrupting the value chain or driving different parts of the chain to commodity.
We’re at the beginning of a new phase of big data — a phase that has less to do with massive data capture and storage and much more to do with producing impactful scalable insights. Organizations that adapt and learn to put data to good use will consistently outperform their peers.
During Koubaras’s Data Story Workshop you will learn:

Koubaras can help you transform in the hybrid cloud and make the most of private and public cloud infrastructure. Our proven services help you securely move work to the cloud and rapidly modernize and integrate applications.
Today, most enterprises are faced with the challenge of managing a hybrid cloud environment. Business Unit development teams may be using resources from public cloud providers like Amazon. Production applications may be running in a private cloud, Koubaras Cloud™ or one developed in house.
Cloud-based IT operating models make IT resources available on a self-service, on-demand basis all the way out to business unit end users. But cloud governance across disparate cloud environments add regulatory and compliance risk and complexity. Effective, centralized governance across a hybrid cloud environment is not only necessary, but accelerates enterprise cloud adoption and business benefit realization.
Key requirements for cloud governance that address IT concerns while delivering on the promise of business agility through self-service:
Private clouds offer fast, highly resilient Infrastructure as a Service capabilities, but cloud-in-a-box or build-your-own cloud solutions typically require significant up-front capital investments, extensive system integration and ongoing support.
Koubaras Cloud™ is a fast, secure, and low-cost private cloud that is delivered and ready for application deployment in as little as 10 weeks. Deployed in strategic Koubaras cloud data centers around the globe or in your data center, this hyper-converged solution is a private cloud, fully supported by Koubaras.
Koubaras Cloud™ is based on commodity hardware with software that delivers high-availability virtualization and NSX software-defined networking behind a centralized user interface. Backup and disaster recovery options are integrated so that fully managed virtual server instances can be created in addition to self-managed or self-service environments.
Koubaras assumes the implementation risk of standing up the private cloud infrastructure and cloud orchestration components. You can quickly harness the benefits of software-defined computing, storage, networking and virtualization resources without having to deal with the nuances and pitfalls of open-source technology.
Using Agility Platform blueprints, applications are infrastructure independent and portable across public and private clouds, helping to future-proof your investments in both legacy and next-generation applications. Agility Platform also integrates with AWS, Microsoft Azure and other popular cloud service providers.
